The 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe day will be commemorated on Thursday, May 8, 2025. During this time we will pause to reflect and honour all those who served, remember the fallen and celebrate the strength of communities coming together during such challenging times.
Here at Homesforth, VE day resonates deeply with us - not just because of its historical importance but because of what it represents: hope, resilience, and the value of home. We would like to show our utmost gratitude to every single person who contributed to the war efforts, and all the soldiers on the frontlines who showed unbelievable courage and bravery to defend against axis forces and freedom which ultimately shaped the course of history forever.
From September of 1940 to May of 1941 Britain endured intense German bombing raids known famously as ‘The Blitz’. After the end of the second world war, Britain faced years of rebuilding. Families returned to towns and villages that had changed drastically. Streets began to be repaired, homes to be rebuilt and entire communities found new ways to come together. Many homes we help buy and sell today were shaped by that very era.
Many street parties will be held across towns across the UK, neighbours will come together with tables of food, music will be played and union flags will be flown high from windows. It will be a time to reflect, to say thank you and to honour those who served their country.
If you live in a 1940s or 1950s home, you are part of that history. And even if you don’t, every street has a story to tell. VE Day is a wonderful reminder to stop and appreciate the people and places that surrounds us.
From everyone at Homesforth, we wish you a peaceful and meaningful VE Day.
